best needles for diabetic dogs?
hi there. our dog has diabetes and we administer vetsulin every day. i noticed that some of the 'generic' syringes (ie. Ulti care and vet choice) are a lot cheaper. Does anyone have experience with these? Does your dog tolerate them as well as the official Vetsulin ones? THanks!
the brand of needle doesn't matter at all, a needle is a needle- just make sure that you get sterile ones (there are federal guidelines). Not all needle brands are sterilized (most are, however). Just get the same numbers- I am assuming you are on a 22 or 24 size 1/2" or 1" needle, just keep with that size and you will be fine.
Other things to look into- there are the push in ones, and the ones with the luer locks. I prefer luer locks, but if your dog sits nicely for the shot, the push-in ones are cheaper, and effective.
I can not tell you what brand of needles I use, I get them by the box from fleet farm, so I am assuming a generic brand.
