Atenelol and blood pressure?
I'm 24 years old thin female with high blood pressure.
About a week before my period, I experienced a massive water retention attack and couldn't get rid of it. I had rapid heart rate too and i panicked! I started eating garlic, onions, everything i could to lower my heart rate and i started drinking tons of water to get rid of retention. It didn't help. I told my friend to take me to hospital.
They told me I had an outstanding blood pressure high! WOW!
So they medicated me and I stayed for a couple days.
I started taking Atenelol.
Didn't feel good still! Pressure was still high. Got rushed to hospital again! They of course medicated me a zillion times.
Let me go and told me to take anxiety/sleeping pills.
Only took it once.
I noticed only about a day my blood pressure dropped to 110. This atenelol works, but I have too many dang side effects.
Can I wean off this drug. I've stayed away from salt 2 weeks. Can I wean off this drug now?
i would get a second opinion from another dr or have your doctor switch your medication. there are so many medications out there now to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) and they should be able to find one that works for you without the side effects.
i wouldn't take the anxiety or sleeping pills-these will only temporarily relieve your symptoms by lowering your heartrate and blood pressure and making you sleep. the dr needs to get to the root of the problem and find the right medication for you.
continue the atenolol until you can get in to see your dr-leaving the hypertension untreated will only result in another trip to the hospital.
good luck to you and i hope they find the right medication for you soon-sometimes it takes 2 or 3 times to find the right med b/c there are so many to choose from and everyone reacts differently to medication. in the meantime-just eat healthy (avoid the salt as you have been)-also avoid fried, fatty foods and stuff high in cholesterol. exercise daily and continue your meds until switched
