What do I do if my glucometer (diabetes meter) reads "HI"?

in all seriousness though.
wash your hands then double check it. one check on one finger, and another one on the other (extra safe). if it still reads "hi", then it is at least 500 (or 600 depending on the meter). take a LOT of insulin and eat only food with no carbs (meats, cheeses, eggs. things like that) for the next few hours. exercise lowers the blood sugar, but not by much. i wouldn't recommend it and i'm sure your doctor wouldn't either, but alcohol (mainly wine and low carb beers) can lower it too (this is a desperate time and it calls for desperate measures). if you did any of the above and it isn't coming down at all in 1-2 hours call a doctor (and don't tell him you had alcohol lol). hopefully that will take care of it
