question about diabetic cooking and baking?

Hi first off thanks for taking the time to read (and hopefully reply to) my question. My husband is a diabetic ( he is on insulin) My dad is not a diabetic but has higher than normal sugar levels (on the brink of diabeties) My mom and I are fine but want to eat healthier. My question is how can I make things diabetic friendly I know I can use whole-wheat or whole grain breads and pasta and use splenda sugar or brown sugar or natural honey or I could use unsweetned applesauce instead of butter in reciepes and I could use low-sodium stuff. What else can I do and does anyone have any good diabetic friendly recipes any kind salads suppers, desserts anything.

Using sugarfree versions of foods (splenda, etc.) is good. There are also LOTS of Diabetic cookbooks out there too.
