How to Lower High Blood Pressure?

It is easy to lower high blood pressure by following a healthier lifestyle. The force of blood against the arteries is termed "pressure". Due to various factors of a person's daily activities, the pressure of the blood can increase or decrease, but if it remains high for a long period of time, the person it can cause permenant damage to the afflicted person. A familiar term for those already have the disease is hypertension, which means high tension. The force of the blood against the arteries will increase if a person is in an elevated mood for a long time. To alleviate this condition, one has to follow some simple guidelines. The blood pressure will not get reduced just by consuming high-dose medicines.

One should know the meaning of blood pressure and its effects. High blood pressure or hypertension can make the heart work or beat faster. This can reduce the life of the heart. If the heart has to work excessively, the arteries will get damaged or become harder. This increases the risk of heart attacks and strokes. High blood pressure not only affects the heart but also affects the function of kidneys and vision. An increased blood pressure causes the risk of bleeding in the brain. This will result in a stroke. It can also cause the blood vessels in the eyes to bleed, causing blurred or impaired vision. To make things worse, one may also have to deal with the thickening of the blood vessels in the kidneys which leads to kidney damage.

There are two important terms related to blood pressure, systolic pressure and diastolic pressure. These are the upper and lower numbers found in a blood pressure reading. If the pressure is above 140 and below 90 mm of mercury, then it is considered to be high blood pressure. For most people, systolic pressure increases with age, whereas diastolic pressure increases up to 50-55 years and then declines or reduces gradually. This is treated by changing the lifestyles and also by consuming proper dose of medications. Now let us understand the causes of a high blood pressure. The causes of having higher blood pressure can vary from person to person. For some people, there will be some defects such as increased blood volume, arteries thicker than usual, heart beating faster than normal, etc. There are some other reasons for blood pressure increases. Some other medical problems add to the risk of an increased blood pressure.

The above said effects of high blood pressure are very serious and very common in many people because of their lifestyles. To combat this condition, a healthy lifestyle should be adopted. This includes reducing the intake of sodium or the common salt, eating more fruits and vegetables, doing proper physical activities, keeping out of mental stress and tension, limiting the usage of beverages, avoiding smoking to a great extent and above all keeping away from other medical problems by being physically and mentally fit. Clearly, for those with hypertension, a healthy diet lowers blood pressure.
